Tapping Into The Direct Line: IV Therapy For Faster Delivery Of All Health And Medicinal Products

People joke about getting coffee or chocolate tapped directly into their veins through an IV, but truth be told, there are already so many things that IV needles and tubes deliver into the human body. The reason why doctors and nurses choose the IV method is because it sends the medication or health product directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the stomach and digestive tract where some of the medicine or health products could be lost during the absorption process. The patient gets the full benefit of whatever medication or health supplement the doctors feel is necessary to treat the patient. The following examples show just what is currently delivered into a person's bloodstream via IV.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy, or "chemo," is a lethal cocktail of poisons that act as cancer killers. Along the way, the drug also kills a few healthy cells, but when patients are faced with the choice of either killing healthy cells to kill cancer cells or certain death from cancer, most patients choose the chemo. Nowadays, doctors know much more about this IV-delivered drug treatment such that less is more, and each patient is dosed for body weight, type of cancer, and necessity to treat it aggressively or not treat it aggressively. The end result is more cancer patients becoming less sick on chemo delivery and surviving their cancer all the same.

IV Vitamin Therapy

Any and all vitamins that are not classified as "fat-soluble" can be delivered via an IV. Fat-soluble items cannot be delivered this way because a build-up of excess of these vitamins in your body's fat stores would become toxic and potentially lethal. Ergo, only the remaining vitamins, and several supplements like potassium and iron, can be delivered to people who need a healthy boost pumped directly into their blood.

IV Hydration Therapy

People nowadays do not drink enough water. It results in dehydration of the body, fatigue, unhealthy skin, nails, and hair, and a host of other health problems. Water is an absolute necessity for the body to function properly, from the production of saliva to the production of sexual fluids. If your skin is dry and itchy, or your hair is oilier and more lifeless than usual, you may need a hydration boost. You could spend days gulping down water, but at this point it is just easier to get connected to an IV and have several hundred millimeters of water with electrolytes pumped into your body.
